How do I activate the Cricut 2007804 Mug Heat Press Machine?

I just received my Cricut 2007804 Mug Heat Press Machine and I'm not sure how to activate it. The manual mentions that it won't function until activated, but it doesn't provide specific instructions on how to do so. Can you please explain the activation process?
