To configure the microphone preamplifier gain on the Studio Technologies 216A Announcer's Console, you will need to use the STcontroller software application. This application allows you to select the gain in 3-dB steps over a range of 19 to 64 dB. The goal is to bring the microphone's signal up to the Dante reference level of -20 dBFS.
To determine the appropriate gain setting for your microphone, you may need to experiment. Factors such as the output sensitivity of the microphone and the acoustical output level of the user will impact the gain setting.
It is recommended to observe the signal level on the device that is receiving the audio from the Model 216A's Dante main transmitter (output) channel. This can be done using a device with a digital level indication or the Studio Technologies' Model 5202 Dante to Phones and Line Output Interface, which provides a 2-channel LED level calibrated in dBFS. Adjust the gain setting until the desired signal level is achieved.
