Here are the step-by-step instructions for setting up and using the RIDGID K9-12 FlexShaft Drain Cleaning Machine:
1. Before each use, inspect the machine for proper assembly, completeness, and any broken, worn, missing, or misaligned parts. Make sure the warning label is present and readable.
2. Clean the machine, including handles and controls, to aid inspection and prevent slipping.
3. Inspect the cable assembly and chain knocker for any damage, wear, or deformation. Replace any worn or damaged parts before using the machine.
4. Select the appropriate chain knocker for the pipe size and type of blockage. Make sure the chain knocker is securely installed on the cable assembly.
5. Set up the battery-powered drill according to the specifications provided in the manual. Make sure the drill is in good operating condition and the switch controls the drill operation.
6. Position the machine on a level, stable, and dry surface, with the cable outlet within 3 feet of the drain access. If the distance exceeds 3 feet, extend the drain access using similar-sized pipe and fittings.
7. Rotate the cable cap to unlock position and remove the cap. Retrieve the chain knocker and cable assembly from the drum.
8. Pull approximately 4 feet of cable assembly out of the machine and mark the sheath to indicate when the chain knocker is approaching the drain opening.
9. Insert the chain knocker end at least 1 foot into the drain.
10. Assume a proper operating position with one hand on the cable assembly and the other hand on the drill grip. Make sure you can quickly release the drill switch and maintain good balance.
11. Confirm that the drill is set to rotate in the forward direction and depress the drill switch to start rotation. Gradually withdraw the cable assembly while rotating to break up the blockage and clean the walls of the drain.
12. If using brushes, advance the brush into the drain while rotating to clean the walls. Brushes are typically used while advancing the cable, not for blockage removal.
13. Continue to rotate the cable assembly and gradually withdraw it from the drain until the cleaning process is complete.
14. After each use, wipe dirt and debris from the cable assembly and clean the machine with hot soapy water or mild disinfectants. Drain the machine if necessary.
