To assemble the vita VA68111 3.25-ft W x 6.75-ft H White Garden Arbor, follow these steps:
Step 1: Assemble the Arch System
- Slide the post caps onto the top of the arches.
- Join the arches together and fasten four screws into the post cap at the top of the arch. Repeat for the other arch.
- Fasten two screws in the top portion of the post caps at the bottom of the arch. Repeat for the other arch.
- Insert the arch rafters into the holes on the arches until they lock into place with the "locking tabs" located at each end.
Step 2: Assemble the Side Panels
- Lay out the side panel horizontal top and bottom rails and three of the side panel vertical spindles.
- Push the horizontal top and bottom rails down over the vertical spindles to lock them into place.
- Insert the horizontal spindles into the posts in a "sandwich" pattern.
- Lay out one post (L or R) with holes facing sideways and insert the top and bottom horizontal rails.
- Insert the horizontal spindles into the posts in the 'sandwich' pattern.
- Lay out the opposite post and complete the side panel by inserting it into the post.
- Fasten the horizontal side panel rails at the intersection of each post with two screws to stiffen the side panel. Repeat for the other side panel.
Step 3: Connect Arch System to Side Panels
- Set out both side panels with a 36" opening between the inside of the posts.
- Place the assembled arch over the side panels and push down until the post tops bottom out inside the post caps. You may need a helper for this step.
- Fasten the assembled arch system to the posts by installing screws into the two pre-drilled holes provided on the bottom of each post cap.
Step 4: Arbor Installation
- To secure the arbor, you can use the provided ground anchoring stakes. Slide the four ground anchoring stakes into the bottom of each post until they bottom out, and secure them with two screws, one on the outer side and one on the inner side of the post.
- If you are installing the arbor into the ground, move the arbor to its final location and mark the locations of the posts. Excavate four holes approximately 10" deep, then carefully move the arbor back into position and level it both vertically and horizontally. Backfill the holes with the excavated soil to cover the anchors.
- If you are installing the arbor with a concrete footing, follow similar steps as above, but excavate four holes approximately 18" deep and 6" in diameter. Fill the holes with wet cement flush to the ground and carefully move the arbor back into position. Support the arbor and level it over the holes with bricks, stones, or blocks of wood under the bottom rail of the side panel. Allow the concrete to set.
