To install the Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID 540-8i PCIe Gen4 12Gb Adapter, follow these steps:
1. Unpack the adapter and inspect it for any damage. If there is any damage, contact Lenovo or your reseller support representative.
2. Turn off the power to the system and disconnect the AC power cord. Remove the computer cover.
3. Review the adapter connectors and check the mounting bracket on the adapter.
4. If required for your system, replace the full-profile mounting bracket with the low-profile bracket supplied. Remove the full-profile bracket and place the adapter on top of the low-profile bracket. Secure the bracket with the screws.
5. Insert the adapter into an available PCIe slot. Align the adapter's PCIe bus connector to the slot and press down gently but firmly to ensure it is seated correctly. Secure the bracket to the computer chassis with the bracket xxxx .
6. Configure and install the SAS and SATA devices in the host computer case.
7. Connect the adapter to the devices using the appropriate cable. The maximum cable length is 1 meter.
8. Provide the required airflow for the installed adapter.
9. Turn on the power to the system. Reinstall the computer cover and reconnect the AC power cords. Make sure the power is turned on to the storage devices before or at the same time as the host computer.
10. During boot, a BIOS message will appear showing the adapter controller number, firmware version, and cache SDRAM size.
11. Choose the correct storage profile and install the operating system driver.
