To install the Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID 940-16i 4GB Flash PCIe Gen4 12Gb Adapter, follow these steps:
1. Unpack the adapter and inspect it for any damage. If there is any damage, contact Lenovo or your reseller for support.
2. Turn off the power to your computer and disconnect the AC power cord. Remove the computer cover according to the system documentation.
3. Review the adapter connectors and check the mounting bracket. If necessary, replace the full-profile mounting bracket with the low-profile bracket provided.
4. Attach the low-profile bracket by removing the two Phillips screws that connect the full-profile bracket to the board. Place the adapter on top of the low-profile bracket and align the xxxx holes. Use a No. 1 Phillips torque screwdriver to replace the two screws.
5. Insert the adapter into an available PCIe slot. Align the adapter's PCIe bus connector with the slot and press down gently but firmly to ensure it is seated correctly. Secure the bracket to the computer chassis with the bracket xxxx .
6. Configure and install the SAS and SATA devices in the host computer case. Refer to the documentation for the devices for any preinstallation configuration requirements.
7. Connect the adapter to the devices using the appropriate cable. Connect one end of the cable to the adapter and the other end to the backplane connector. Ensure the cable length does not exceed 1 meter.
8. Provide the required airflow for the installed adapter.
9. Turn on the power to the system. Reinstall the computer cover and reconnect the AC power cords. Make sure the power is turned on to the storage devices before or at the same time as the host computer.
10. During boot, a BIOS message will appear showing the adapter controller number, firmware version, and cache SDRAM size.
11. Choose the correct storage profile and install the operating system driver. Refer to the ThinkSystem Server Documentation Center for detailed instructions on installing the driver.
12. The hardware installation of your adapter is now complete.
