To set up the icon Audio LA 5TX Pure Valve Line Pre-Amplifier, follow these steps:
1. Unpack the unit carefully and ensure it is in good condition. Keep the packaging for warranty/service return.
2. Check the mains voltage and make sure it is suitable for your area. If not, contact your dealer.
3. Fit the rectifier valve (274B/GZ34/5AR4) in the rear center socket. Be careful not to pull the valve by the glass envelope and align the "spigot" or keyway of the valve with the socket before pushing it into place.
4. Fit the three 6SN7/CV181 valves. These valves are normally numbered so that they will be in the same position when first fitted. If not numbered, they can be fitted in any order. Again, be careful not to pull the valves by the glass envelope and align the "spigot" or keyway of the valve with the socket before pushing them into place. Russian 6H8c valves can also be used.
5. Connect the pre-amplifier to your source and output units (e.g., CD player, tuner, tape deck, power amplifier) using appropriate phono sockets and leads. The OUT 1 and OUT 2 outputs are the same. See the manual for more information on connecting Bluetooth devices.
6. Connect the pre-amplifier to the mains supply using the supplied IEC mains lead to a 230/117V supply. If you need to change the mains plug, follow the wiring instructions provided in the manual.
7. Switch on the pre-amplifier. The LED power indicator should light up, and the unit will take approximately 40 seconds to start working. All valves should have a visible orange glow from the cathode heaters. With the volume control set to minimum (fully anti-clockwise), there should be no sound coming from the speakers except for a barely discernible gentle hum.
8. Your unit should now be functioning. Select the correct input and adjust the volume. For the best sound quality, allow the unit to warm up for about 20 minutes.
Note: The manual also provides additional information on health and safety, remote control usage, connecting inputs and outputs, troubleshooting, valve replacement, and the specifications and features of the LA 5TX pre-amplifier.
