To use the Riester R1 Blood Pressure Measuring Set, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the cuff: Choose the appropriate cuff size based on the circumference of your upper arm or thigh. Make sure the white index line on the cuff is within the range between the arrows after the cuff has been put on. Put the cuff on in such a way that the lower edge of the cuff is approximately 2 to 3 cm above the crook of the arm or approximately 5 cm above the knee joint. Ensure that the marking sign is placed above the artery.
2. Inflate the cuff: Use the ball provided to pump up the cuff to approximately 20 mmHg above the expected systolic blood pressure value (the upper value). Do not inflate higher than 300 mmHg.
3. Position yourself and the patient: Sit comfortably with your back and arm supported. Place the center of the cuff on the upper arm at the level of the right cardiac atrium. The patient should be as relaxed as possible and refrain from talking during the measuring process. Wait for approximately 5 minutes before taking the first measurement.
4. Listen for the Korotkoff sounds: Use a stethoscope or the integrated chest piece (for home use models) to listen for the Korotkoff sounds. The recommended phases for auscultatory measurement are as follows: phase V (K5) for adults, phase IV (K4) for children aged 3 to 12 years, and phase V (K5) for pregnant female patients. If the Korotkoff sounds can be heard during deflation of the cuff, use phase IV (K4).
5. Read the blood pressure values: When the upper blood pressure value (systole) is reached, you will hear rhythmic beats. When the lower blood pressure value (diastole) is reached, the beats will fall silent. These values indicate the systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively.
6. Deflate the cuff: Open the deflation xxxx by turning it counterclockwise to release the pressure. The deflation rate should ideally range between 2 and 3 mmHg/s. After the measurement is complete, open the valve completely for rapid deflation of the cuff.
7. Record and analyze the measured values: It is important to note that a unit intended for home use does not replace regular visits to the doctor. Only a doctor can accurately analyze your measured values.
