To install the SURVIVE-A-STORM TWP05 Twister Pod Max 5 ft. x 5 ft. Above Ground Storm Shelter, follow these steps:
1. Determine the location: Choose a concrete slab that is free of major cracks and defects that could compromise the foundation. Ensure that the foundation meets the engineered specifications and is made of a minimum of 2500 psi concrete. If you are unsure about the concrete, consult a local concrete company for testing. The minimum foundation sizes for the 5 ft. x 5 ft. TwisterPod model shelter are 24’’ thick.
2. Unbolt the shelter: Remove the shelter from the skid by unbolting it from the inside. Use a pallet jack, forklift, tractor, or similar equipment to place the shelter in its desired location.
3. Drill holes: Use a hammer drill with a 3/8” masonry bit to drill through the holes in the shelter's bottom flange. Drill the holes to approximately 3-¼’’ deep into the concrete. Be careful not to drill too deep. If available, use a vacuum to remove debris from the drilling process. Otherwise, sweep it away before installing the anchors.
4. Install anchors: Take the provided anchors, washers, and nuts. Place one flat washer on each anchor and thread the nut until it is flush with the top of the anchor. Insert the anchor into each of the 12 holes and tap it completely in with a hammer.
5. Torque the anchors: Use a torque wrench and a 9/16” socket to torque the anchors to 25 lbs/ft. It is recommended to repeat the torque process a second time to ensure all anchors are properly secured.
6. Replace lifting eyelet: Remove the lifting eyelet from the roof of the shelter and replace it with the provided 9/16” bolt and washer. This step is necessary to prevent leaking if the shelter is placed outside in the elements.
