To defrost the Kenmore 111.17552 5 cu. ft. Chest Freezer, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the freezer from the power outlet.
2. Remove all the food from the freezer and place it in a cooler or another freezer to keep it frozen.
3. Leave the freezer lid open to allow the frost to melt. You can place towels or a shallow pan beneath the drain outlet at the front of the freezer to catch the water.
4. If the frost is soft, you can use a plastic scraper to gently remove it. Avoid using sharp or metallic instruments to prevent damage to the refrigerant tubing.
5. Once the frost has melted, clean the inside of the freezer with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda in one quart of warm water. Rinse and dry the interior thoroughly.
6. Clean the removable parts and baskets with the same baking soda solution or mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry them before placing them back in the freezer.
7. Replace the drain plugs and close the freezer lid.
8. Plug the freezer back into the power outlet and allow it to cool down for at least four hours before loading it with frozen food.
Note: It is important to defrost and clean the freezer when ¼ to ½ inch of frost has accumulated. Avoid using sharp or metallic instruments to remove frost, as it may damage the refrigerant tubing.
