Billing for services performed using the NuVasive NVM5 system for intraoperative neuromonitoring involves using Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes. The most common codes used to describe the use of NVM5 IOM modalities include CPT codes 95870, 95939, 95938, 95865, and 61783. These codes represent the modalities that were performed during the procedure.
In addition to the base (primary) codes, there are also add-on codes that may be utilized when professional oversight is employed. For professional oversight provided from outside the operating room (OR), CPT code 95941 or HCPCS code G0453 can be used. If monitoring is performed from inside the OR, CPT code 95940 or 95941 can be used.
