To install the GE APPLIANCES JGP3530SLSS 30 Inch Built-In Gas Cooktop, follow these steps:
1. Before beginning the installation, switch off the power at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent accidental power switch-on. If the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
2. Gather the necessary tools and materials, including a gas line shut-off valve, pipe joint sealant or UL-approved pipe thread tape with Teflon, a flexible metal appliance connector, flare union adapters, liquid leak detector or soapy water, foam tape, and Teflon tape.
3. Ensure that the cooktop is electrically grounded in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code. Use the current CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and/or local codes for grounding in Canada.
4. Do not install the cooktop with an air curtain hood or other cooktop hood that blows air down on the cooktop, as this may interfere with the operation of the gas burners and pose a fire or explosion hazard.
5. Follow the dimensions and clearances provided in the manual to ensure safe use of the cooktop. Allow for minimum clearances between the cooktop and adjacent combustible surfaces.
6. If installing the cooktop in a mobile home, ensure compliance with the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard or local codes. Secure the cooktop during transit.
7. If you need to convert the cooktop to propane gas or back to natural gas, it must be performed by a qualified propane gas installer. The conversion orifices and instructions are included with the regulator.
8. Install the cooktop by attaching hold-down brackets to the sides of the unit and inserting it centered into the cutout opening. Secure the unit in place by screwing the hold-down brackets into the cabinet sides.
9. Install the gas supply by using the provided regulator and a manual shut-off valve. Apply pipe joint compound or wrap pipe thread tape with Teflon around all male (external) pipe threads to prevent gas leaks. Conduct a leak test using a liquid leak detector or soapy water.
10. For the electrical connection, ensure that the cooktop is properly grounded. Use a 120-volt, 60 Hertz, properly grounded circuit protected by a 15-amp or 20-amp circuit breaker or time delay fuse. It is recommended to provide a separate circuit for the cooktop.
11. Place the surface burners into their corresponding positions on the cooktop, place the caps on the proper size burner, and place the grates on the cooktop.
12. Check the surface burners by pushing and turning a xxxx to the LITE position. A clicking sound should indicate proper operation of the ignition system. Check each burner in succession until all burners have been tested.
13. Once all hookups are completed, ensure that all controls are left in the off position and that the flow of combustion and ventilation air to the cooktop is unobstructed. Remove all packing materials and tape from the appliance.
14. If installing the cooktop at high altitude (over 6000ft), follow the instructions included with the kit (WB28X29863 for natural gas and WB28X29860 for propane gas) to ensure proper installation.
