Before installing PERGO TimberCraft Elite WetProtect Floor, it is important to properly prepare the job site. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Remove any existing carpet and padding. Also, remove any wood flooring installed on concrete, unless they are asbestos-free.
2. Undercut the door frame and wall base. Slide the flooring at least 1/4" underneath the door frame and wall base. Leave a concealed 3/8" minimum expansion space under each.
3. Remove any bumps or peaks in the subfloor and fill depressions with floor leveling compound to ensure no more than 3/16" unevenness per 10-foot span.
4. Acclimate the unopened product before installation. If there is no time for acclimation, ensure there is no more than a difference of 25°F and 20% relative humidity between the stocking/transportation environment of the flooring and the final installation environment.
5. Clean debris from the subfloor before installation.
6. For concrete subfloors, install a vapor barrier with overlapped seams of 8" or more.
7. For planks without attached underlayment, install over a single layer of underlayment appropriate for laminate wood floors. For planks with attached underlayment, it is acceptable to install Mohawk Premium underlayment prior to flooring installation if desired. Make sure to follow the Mohawk Premium underlayment installation instructions, including sealing all foam edges with sealing tape and repairing any rips or perforations in the underlayment vapor barrier. A separate vapor barrier should not be used in conjunction with Mohawk Premium underlayment.
By following these site preparation steps, you can ensure a proper foundation for installing PERGO TimberCraft Elite WetProtect Floor.
