To clean and prime the Breville VCF149 Bijou Espresso Machine before first use, follow these steps:
1. Wash all removable parts, such as the portafilter and filters, in warm water with a mild liquid soap.
2. Fill the water tank to the "MAX" marking with clean, filtered water.
3. Turn on the espresso machine by pressing the power button on the front of the unit. The brew button indicator light will pulse while the unit heats up and turn solid when it is ready to use.
4. Place a filter into the portafilter and insert it into the machine.
5. Place a large jug or bowl on the drip tray to capture the water.
6. Turn the control dial to the "Brew" position.
7. Leave the machine to run, passing water through the portafilter. The machine will turn off automatically after 60 seconds.
8. When the machine has finished dispensing water, turn the control dial to the "Standby" position.
9. Discard the water. Your Breville Bijou Espresso Machine is now ready to use.
Note: Be careful to ensure that the jug or bowl will not overflow with water during the cleaning process. If it looks likely to overflow, turn off the dial manually.
