To install the Goldstrike LED Trunk Light, follow these steps:
1. Park your motorcycle on a level surface and turn off the engine. If available, lift the motorcycle onto its center stand. Allow the engine to cool before installation.
2. Clean the surface where the Goldstrike LED Trunk Light will be installed using hot water and soap.
3. Open the saddlebags and remove the side covers below the seat by pulling them away from the motorcycle with steady pressure.
4. Remove the seat by removing the socket head screws located under the front of the seat. Pull up on the front of the seat and slide it forward.
5. Install the Goldstrike P/N 48000 (sold separately) and plug in the Goldstrike Trunk Light to familiarize yourself with the connector locations, lights, and how they function. The right side has a blue wire, and the left side has an orange wire. Unplug the light and set it aside.
6. Open the trunk and remove the xxxx near the hinge that secures the backrest pad. There is one xxxx per side.
7. Remove the trunk lid latches, noting their position for reinstallation.
8. Remove the remaining backrest screws from inside the trunk. Disconnect the backrest heater plug, unclip the harness, and set the backrest aside.
9. Remove the six screws holding the trunk lid to the hinges (three per side). Move the trunk lid to a workbench, using a blanket or towel to protect the paint.
10. Remove the seven remaining screws to separate the painted outer trunk lid from the inner. Set the inner aside.
11. Place a piece of masking tape over the center of the outer lid. Measure 1 1/2 inches (38mm) down from the top edge and mark a horizontal line. Mark the center.
12. Drill a small pilot hole and then use a step drill to open the hole up to 9/16 inch (14mm).
13. Clean the surface where the Trunk Light will be installed using denatured alcohol to remove all wax, oil, and residue. Note: New motorcycles are delivered from the factory covered in protective oil. Remove it before installing this product. Do not install if the temperature is below 50°F as the adhesive will not cure properly.
14. Insert the wires from the Goldstrike LED Trunk Light and test fit its placement. It should sit 1-2mm below the top surface of the trunk lid. Mark the edges with masking tape when you have the light in the correct location.
15. Peel off the adhesive backing and carefully stick the LED Trunk Light using the tape marks as a guide. Press and hold for 30 seconds.
16. Tape the wire to the inside of the trunk lid and out the rectangular hole in the center. Reinstall the trunk lid liner and put the lid back on the motorcycle.
17. Route the LED Trunk Light wire along the same path as the backrest heater cable, behind the speaker grills into the under seat area. Ensure the wires will not be pinched and secure them with zip ties.
18. Plug the LED Trunk Light connectors into the Goldstrike P/N 48000, matching the color of the wire to the correct side. The right side has a blue wire, and the left side has an orange wire.
19. Test the LED Trunk Light for correct functions (run, turn, and brake). Reinstall the backrest, side covers, and seat.
