To remove the interior door panel, follow these steps:
1. Begin by inspecting the product for any damage incurred during shipping. If there is any damage, contact the customer service department.
2. Gather all the tools required for installation: power drill, 3/16 drill bit, 13/32 drill bit, 9/16 box wrench or socket, and 7/32 hex key Allen wrench or Allen head socket.
3. Estimate the installation time to be around 1 hour and consider getting additional help for some steps.
4. Identify the specific door configuration you have, such as stock full trim, stock half trim, stock panel, upholstered wood, etc., as each requires its own removal method.
5. Use the provided template to mark the hole to drill. Align the template with the edge of your door and the seam on top.
6. Start drilling the hole using the 3/16 drill bit. Once you've drilled through both layers of the door sheet metal, switch to the 13/32 drill bit and drill the hole out to the final size. Alternatively, you can use a smaller pilot hole initially and step up your hole size in smaller increments.
7. De-burr the hole using a grinding stone, countersink, or a larger drill bit if necessary.
8. Clean the area with alcohol and apply a rust preventive coating, such as Rustoleum paint.
9. Install the upper and lower hinge backing plates, 3/8-16 x 1.5 button head hex drive screws, and 3/8 flat washers into the corresponding locations.
10. While someone holds the backer plates and hardware in place, hang the rear door platform on the door. Fasten the 3/8 flat washers and 3/8-16 nylon insert locknuts onto the protruding bolts to hold the panel in place, but do not tighten them yet.
11. Insert the 3/8-16 x 1.25 carriage bolt through the slot on the door mount bracket of the rear door platform and through the hole you drilled in the door. Have someone hold it in place while you start the 3/8 flat washer and 3/8-16 nylon insert locknut. Use a shallow socket to start tightening and then switch to a deep socket.
12. Align the rear door platform on your door. The lower hinge mount has a stop built into the bracket. Open your door carefully to approximately 135° (45° away from the side of the van) and adjust the lower hinge mount into place. The side of the platform should follow the body line of the van. Once aligned, tighten all bolts/nuts.
13. Congratulations! You have finished the installation and are ready to configure your platform.
Please note that this is a general overview of the installation process. For more detailed instructions and illustrations, refer to the FVCO SP1109B Passenger Rear Door Platform Installation Guide provided with the product.
