To remove the existing thermostat and install the Amana PHWT-A200 thermostat, follow these steps:
1. Before removing the existing thermostat, write down the letters printed near each wire terminal that is used, and the color of each wire it is connected to. You can also use the enclosed self-adhesive wire labels for this purpose.
2. Turn off the electricity to all heating and cooling components.
3. Carefully remove the wires from the existing thermostat and bend them so they cannot fall back into the wall or touch each other.
4. Remove the existing thermostat base from the wall.
5. Mount the Amana PHWT-A200 thermostat on an inside wall about five feet above the floor in an area that has good circulation but is not directly affected by a vent or duct.
6. If painting or construction is still ongoing, cover the thermostat completely or wait until work is complete before mounting the thermostat.
7. If new mounting holes are needed, mark the placement of the new mounting holes through the thermostat base. Use a 3/16" drill bit to drill the holes and insert the supplied wall anchors.
8. Feed the wires through the wire opening in the base and use the supplied screws to mount the base to the wall.
9. Refer to the wiring diagrams provided in the manual for your specific heating/cooling application. Wire each terminal on the new thermostat base according to the diagram. Ensure that the bare end of each wire is fully seated into the connector and tighten securely. Pull gently on the wires to ensure they are secure.
10. Place the thermostat front back onto the base.
11. Restore power to the heating and cooling components and the thermostat.
12. Refer to the Installer Settings Menu in the manual to adjust the required settings for your specific system type.
By following these steps, you should be able to remove the existing thermostat and install the Amana PHWT-A200 thermostat successfully.
