To mount the Clearwater LIGHTS F900XR Darla LED Light Kit on your motorcycle, follow these steps:
1. Park your motorcycle on hard pavement or concrete to ensure stability during installation. You can use the center stand or mount the bike on a stand with tie-down straps for added security.
2. Disconnect the battery following the manufacturer's guidelines to prevent damage to the electrical system.
3. Refer to the provided parts list to ensure you have all the necessary components for installation.
4. Start by removing the existing factory bolts from the front fender of your F900R/XR using a T25 Torx wrench. It is recommended to remove one side at a time.
5. Follow the provided exploded diagram for assembly. Install the longer spacer and longer M5 bolt on the bottom of the assembly. The correct sequence of hardware should be shoulder washer, spacer, bracket, M5 flat washer, and M5 bolt.
6. Disassemble the seat/seats and left side fairing to prepare for a clean install. Use the provided photos as a guide to remove the left side fairing, highlighting the fasteners that need to be removed. Note that fastener 4 requires a T30 Torx, while all other OEM fasteners use a T25 Torx wrench. Fasteners 7 & 8 are slightly longer than the others, and fastener 1 is accessible from the inside.
7. Once the fasteners have been removed, lift the bottom of the left side fairing up and out slowly. Disconnect the turn signal wire before completely removing the fairing.
8. Mount the harness near the front of the bike, just behind the steering column. Route the data cable and power wires from the harness through the bike's left side wiring trough to the area where the battery is located. Use the provided wire routing path as a guide.
9. Route the light wires toward the front wheel, ensuring they avoid pinch points and suspension. It may be helpful to follow the factory brake cable path. Refer to the wiring diagram for an overview of the system.
10. Install the CANopener by utilizing the bike's Lean Angle Sensor and its connector. Unplug the factory harness from the Lean Angle Sensor and plug in the opener. Then plug the BMW factory harness back into the CANopener as a pass-through. Connect the data cable to the CANopener and ensure it is plugged into the harness at the front of the bike. Securely mount the CANopener in front of the battery using the attached velcro.
11. Insert the fuse into the fuse holder and connect the power wires to the battery. Make sure all wires are routed away from pinch points, steering stops, and direct contact with heat sources.
12. Start the engine to activate the Clearwater Lights. Refer to the CANopener manual for programmability and functionality instructions. Test all functions, such as high beam, horn, and dimming modes, to ensure they work as expected.
13. Once the lights are confirmed working, reassemble the bike, including the fairings, turn signal connector, and seat. Level the lights to minimize unnecessary glare to oncoming traffic.
14. To align the lights, have an assistant sit on the bike while you position a right-angle board or object on the floor, sliding it up to the light. Adjust the lights so that the light is level with the ground.
Remember not to kink, deform, or put pressure on the grommet when dressing the wires during installation to maintain the integrity of the water sealing grommet.
