1. Specimen Collection and Preparation:
- Carefully remove the tick, ensuring that the head is also removed. You can use the tick removal device provided.
- Store the tick in the specimen collection tube provided, if desired.
- Thoroughly crush the tick using the supplied stick until the tick's colon is crushed and the liquid takes on color. Use both the sharp and dull sides of the stick for this purpose.
2. Test Procedure:
- Open the foil pouch and remove the test cassette. Place it on a clean, flat surface.
- Fill the pipette with the tick-buffer mixture, making sure not to take up any tick particles.
- Add the tick-buffer mixture to the sample well of the test cassette, ensuring no tick particles are added. The liquid will start to migrate along the internal test strip.
- Read the test result after 10 minutes but not more than 20 minutes.
3. Result Interpretation:
- Positive Result: Two colored lines will appear on the membrane. One line will appear in the control line region (C), and the other line will appear in the test line region (T). The test line indicates the presence of Borrelia antigens in the tick. Even a weak test line should be interpreted as a positive result.
- Negative Result: Only one colored line will appear in the control line region (C). No line will appear in the test line region (T), indicating no detection of Borrelia antigens in the tick.
- Invalid Result: If the control line fails to appear, the test is considered invalid. Repeat the test with a new test cassette.
Note: It is important to follow the instructions carefully to ensure accurate test results.
