To install the resideo L4029E 200°F Fixed Range and 3 Inch Insertion high limit cutout control, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you are a trained and experienced service technician before attempting the installation.
2. Disconnect power to the system to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage.
3. Determine the appropriate location for mounting the L4029E or F. It should be placed where the element can quickly respond to air temperature changes in the system.
4. In a ventilating or air conditioning installation, the safety control is typically installed with the element just upstream of the fan. If there is no intake duct, you can mount the L4029E or F on a suitable bracket so that the air entering the fan is drawn across the element.
5. In a downflow furnace installation, locate the L4029E or F between the filter(s) and blower, ensuring that the circulation of air is not restricted by baffles. Make sure the element guard does not touch the filter or other internal parts.
6. Cut a hole in the sheet metal at the selected location to clear the element guard, and drill holes for mounting screws.
7. If you have the L4029E model, remove the cover. Insert the element into the hole and fasten the control securely with screws.
8. Follow the wiring instructions provided in the manual, ensuring that all wiring connections comply with local electrical codes and ordinances. Refer to the typical connections diagram in the manual for guidance.
9. The loads connected to the control terminals must not exceed the specified electrical ratings (in amperes) for the different voltage levels.
10. After completing the installation, perform a checkout to ensure proper functioning. There are no field adjustments to make on the L4029E or F.
11. To reset the control, push and release the button protruding through the cover when the temperature has dropped approximately 25 degrees (F) below the cutout point.
12. If the limit control requires servicing or replacement, make sure to order the correct model number.
13. Never use a lighted match to heat the bimetal element for checking the operation.
14. Limit controls do not require lubrication.
15. Before leaving the job, check the installation by disconnecting the fan from its power supply and operating the thermostat to turn on the burner. The L4029 will shut off the burner when the plenum temperature reaches the limit setting of the control. If the control fails to shut off the burner, carefully check the installation and wiring. Retest, and if the control still fails to shut off the burner, replace it.
