To install and connect the INTELLINET 508971 Industrial Gigabit Media Converter, follow these steps:
1. Placement:
- For desktop installation, place the device on a level surface with at least 25 mm (approx. 1 inch) of clearance for ventilation.
- Keep the device away from sources of electrical noise such as radios, transmitters, and broadband amplifiers.
- Ensure the device is within 100 m (approx. 328 ft) of the network devices it will be connected to.
2. DIN-Rail Installation:
- Slide a single spring mounting clip over the top lip of the DIN rail.
- Push the device down until the clip clicks onto the rail.
- Make sure the installation is stable.
3. Connections:
- This product requires an SFP transceiver module for fiber optic connections.
- Insert the transceiver into the media converter and route the fiber optic cable into the transceiver.
- Route the other end of the fiber optic cable into a suitable port in your fiber optic network. The maximum length and fiber cable specification depend on the model.
- For RJ45 connections, connect the UTP port of the media converter to a powered RJ45 device (e.g., a network camera) using Cat5e or better cabling.
4. Power:
- For terminal block installation, ensure all power is off/disconnected before beginning.
- Loosen the appropriate screws and insert the bare power-supply wires into the corresponding terminals (positive wire into positive [V1+] terminal, negative wire into negative [V1-] terminal, ground wire to ground [GND] terminal).
- Tighten the screws to secure the wires. Repeat these steps for a second power supply if desired (V2+, V2-, GND).
- Install the block into the device.
5. LED Indicators:
- The front panel of the media converter has LED indicators for various statuses.
- P1/P2 LED: Green indicates power channel status (On - powered, Off - not powered).
- FX LED: Green indicates fiber port connection (On - connected, Off - not connected, Flashing - sending or receiving data).
- 1000M LED: Yellow indicates the speed (On - 1000 Mbps, Off - 10/100 Mbps).
- L/A LED: Green indicates a valid port connection (On - connection established, Off - connection not established, Flashing - sending or receiving data).
6. DIP Switch:
- The media converter has a DIP switch for LFPT (Link Fault Pass Through) and 100M (Copper interface management).
- LFPT: ON enables Link Fault Pass Through, where devices on a link must acknowledge that they are online before data can be transmitted. OFF disables LFPT.
- 100M: ON restricts the data transfer rate to 100 Mbps, while OFF has no data transfer rate restriction.
