To install the Barracuda BASPC33V Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the electrical power at the service entrance to avoid any possible electrical shock hazards.
2. If replacing an existing pump, disconnect the discharge pipe or hose from the old pump. Remove any sediment, debris, and standing water from the sump pit.
3. Attach a PVC adapter (Male x Slip) to the pump discharge. If not reusing the existing discharge pipe, prepare a 3-4 foot section of PVC pipe and drill a 1/8" weep hole approximately 3" from the bottom of the pipe to prevent air-locking.
4. Apply PVC primer and solvent to the PVC adapter and the section of PVC pipe. Insert the pipe into the adapter and allow the solvent to set.
5. Place the pump in the sump pit, ensuring that the float switch moves freely without touching the wall of the sump or other obstructions. Make sure incoming water does not interfere with the float switch.
6. Install an inline sump check valve onto the end of the PVC pipe, making sure it is installed with the flapper opening upward with the flow of water. Connect the remainder of the discharge pipe to the check valve and tighten all clamps.
7. Plug the pump into a 115 V GFCI outlet on a dedicated 15-amp circuit. Ensure that the cord does not interfere with the float control motion or drape over the pump motor. Secure the cord to the discharge pipe using electrician's tape and a cable tie.
8. Fill the sump basin with water using a bucket or hose. When the float switch floats to the upright "on" position, the pump will turn on. The switch will turn off the pump when it reaches the "off" down position.
9. Install a sump basin lid to prevent solid matter from falling into the sump, prevent odors, and guard against accidental injury.
