To install the iTECHBM500 battery monitor, follow these steps:
1. Panel Mounting: Use the plastic bracket and butterfly nut to securely mount the iTECHBM500 on a panel. You may need a 54mm hole saw or knock out tool for this.
2. Charge Battery: Before connecting the iTECHBM500, make sure to fully charge the battery bank to 100% state of charge (SOC). This is important to ensure accurate readings.
3. Connecting: Connect the B- terminal of the shunt to the negative terminal of the battery. Connect the P- terminal of the shunt to the load or charger. Connect a sense wire to the positive terminal of the battery. It is recommended to install a 1A fuse in series with the sense wire. Finally, connect one end of the shielded cable to the iTECHBM500 display cable (already installed on the display) and the other end to the current shunt.
4. Setting Up: Use the charge and discharge monitor to confirm that the iTECHBM500 is capturing the appropriate currents. Check that the battery voltage is displayed correctly by cross-referencing with a voltage multimeter. To reset the capacity, press the button for three seconds to set it to 100%. To enter the capacity, press the SET button for three seconds, use the button to increase or decrease the capacity, and press SET when done. For parallel connections, enter the total usable capacity of the system by adding the usable capacities of each battery. For 24V series connections, the system capacity will equal the capacity of a single battery. For single charging systems, connect the voltage sense wire to the system terminals. For multi-bank charging systems, connect the shunt and voltage sense wire to the battery with the positive terminal of the system.
