To wire the TP-Link KS230 Smart WiFi Light Switch 3-Way Dimmer Kit, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the circuit breaker and remove the two wallplates to access the existing switches.
2. Familiarize yourself with the different wires:
- Line (Live/Hot): Usually black, connected to the circuit breaker and the first 3-Way switch.
- Load: Usually black, connected to the light fixture and the second 3-Way switch.
- Travelers: Usually one black and one red wire.
- Neutral: Usually a bundle of white wires, not connected to the existing switches.
- Ground: Usually green or copper.
3. Label the Traveler wires in the two wallboxes.
4. Disconnect the Line/Load wires from the existing switches and cover them with the provided wire nuts for safety.
5. Identify the Line and Load wires in the two wallboxes:
- Turn on the circuit breaker and use a voltage detector to identify the energized wire (Line wire).
- Turn off the circuit breaker and label the Line wire (main dimmer wallbox).
- Label the other wire in the other wallbox as the Load wire (satellite dimmer wallbox).
6. Label the Neutral wire in the main dimmer wallbox.
7. Disconnect all wires from the existing switches and connect them to the Smart 3-Way Dimmer according to the provided instructions.
8. If the main dimmer LED blinks red quickly after installation, it means the wires are incorrectly connected. Please check the wiring and consider consulting an electrician if needed.
Please note that the wire colors mentioned in the guide are recommended by the National Electric Code (NEC), but your actual wire colors may vary. Always refer to the detailed wiring instructions in the Kasa Smart app for accurate guidance.
