When machining InDURO™ Sheet, it is important to follow the usual rules of good machining practice. Here are some guidelines to help you machine InDURO™ Sheet effectively:
1. Use standard metal or wood working equipment: You can use milling machines, drill presses, lathes, planers, and shapers to machine InDURO™ Sheet. The working properties of InDURO™ Sheet are similar to those of brass, copper, and fine woods.
2. Hold tools firmly to prevent chattering: It is important to hold your tools firmly to prevent chattering during machining. This will ensure clean and accurate cuts.
3. Operate machine tools at high speeds with slow feed rates: InDURO™ Sheet is a thermoplastic material that softens when heated to its forming temperature. To prevent gumming and sticking of the tool, it is recommended to operate machine tools at high speeds with slow feed rates.
4. Use sharp and properly ground tools: Make sure your tools are sharp and properly ground for machining InDURO™ Sheet. This will help prevent gumming and ensure clean cuts.
5. Consider using coolants: While coolants are not always necessary for machining InDURO™ Sheet, they may be desirable for an unusually smooth finish or for deep cuts. If coolants are employed, only detergent in water or 10% soluble oil in water should be used.
6. Sand and buff for a high polish: After machining, you can sand and buff the machined surfaces for a high polish. Properly machined surfaces will have an even, semi-matte surface that can be brought to a high polish by sanding and buffing.
