Before applying the gel coat repair kit, it is important to properly prepare the surface. Here are the steps to follow:
1. If there are any exposed metal areas with rust (oxidation), sand the area with 220 grit sandpaper to remove the rust until bare metal is visible.
2. Clean the application area using a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol. This will ensure the best adhesion of the gel coat repair product.
3. For proper ventilation during application and clean up with solvents, open a window or place a fan in the area.
4. To protect your skin, wear nitrile gloves to prevent any contact with the gel coat repair product.
5. In case of spills or overage, use isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinner to clean up.
