It is not recommended to assemble or leave your sauna in the rain unprotected. While cedar is naturally resistant to insects, mold, and rot, it is still susceptible to water damage. To preserve the longevity of your sauna and maintain its beautiful color, it is highly recommended to apply an exterior stain or use an alternate type of shingled roofing. This will help protect the wood from moisture and prevent fading or greying over time. For pine saunas, it is even more important to apply some form of protective structure or exterior stain.
