To mount the Phocos CML-USB Solar Charge Controller, follow these steps:
1. Choose a suitable location for the controller indoors, away from direct sunlight and in a dry environment. Do not install it in humid rooms like bathrooms.
2. Mount the controller to the wall using screws that fit the wall material. Use screws with a 4 mm shaft and a maximum head diameter of 8 mm. Ensure that the screws can support the force applied by the wiring. Make sure the ventilation slits on the sides of the controller are unobstructed.
3. Alternatively, you can use a DIN Rail mounting plate (CX-DR2) as an accessory. Remove the screws at the back of the controller and xxxx the mounting plate onto the back of the controller using the long fastening xxxx . Then, mount the controller on a standard 35mm DIN rail.
4. Connect the wires leading to the battery with the correct polarity. First, connect the controller, and then connect the battery. Follow the recommended wire length (minimum 30 cm to maximum approximately 100 cm) and wire size according to the model:
- CML-USB05: minimum 2.5 mm² (AWG13)
- CML-USB10: minimum 4 mm² (AWG11)
- CML-USB20: minimum 6 mm² (AWG9)
If the polarity is wrong, only the red LED will light up. Ensure that the battery is connected with the correct polarity to avoid any damage.
5. Connect the wires leading to the solar array with the correct polarity. First, connect the controller, and then connect the solar array. Use the recommended wire size:
- CML-USB05: minimum 2.5 mm² (AWG13)
- CML-USB10: minimum 4 mm² (AWG11)
- CML-USB20: minimum 6 mm² (AWG9)
6. Connect the wires leading to the loads with the correct polarity. First, connect the load, and then connect it to the controller. Use the recommended wire size:
- CML-USB05: minimum 2.5 mm² (AWG13)
- CML-USB10: minimum 4 mm² (AWG11)
- CML-USB20: minimum 6 mm² (AWG9)
7. If grounding is required, always ground the positive wires of the controller. Be cautious if using the controller in a vehicle with the battery negative on the chassis, as loads connected to the regulator must not have an electric connection to the car body.
8. After completing the connections, replace the cover of the controller and tighten it with the screws.
