To clean and maintain your Whirlpool WTW5100HC Top Load Washer, follow these recommendations provided in the instruction manual:
1. Use High Efficiency (HE) detergents: Always use HE detergents and follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the amount of detergent to use. Using more than the recommended amount can lead to the accumulation of detergent and soil residue, resulting in unpleasant odors.
2. Use warm and hot wash water settings: Occasionally use warm and hot water settings instead of exclusively cold water washes. Warm and hot water settings help control the rate at which soils and detergent accumulate in the washer.
3. Leave the washer lid open between uses: After each use, leave the washer lid open to allow the interior to dry out and prevent the buildup of odor-causing residue.
4. Replace water inlet hoses: Replace the water inlet hoses after 5 years of use or if bulges, kinks, cuts, wear, or leaks are found. Mark the date of replacement on the label with a permanent marker.
5. Non-use and vacation care: If you are not using the washer for a period of time, unplug or disconnect power to the washer and turn off the water supply to avoid flooding. Operate the washer only when you are home.
6. Winter storage care: Install and store the washer where it will not freeze. To winterize the washer, shut off both water faucets, disconnect and drain water inlet hoses, and put 1 quart (1 L) of RV-type antifreeze into an empty basket. Unplug the washer or disconnect power.
7. Reinstalling/using the washer again: Before using the washer again after non-use, vacation, winter storage, or moving, refer to the "Installation & Care Instructions Guide" online for detailed instructions on locating, leveling, and connecting the washer. Flush water pipes and hoses, reconnect water inlet hoses, turn on both water faucets, plug in the washer or reconnect power, and run the washer through the BEDDING cycle to clean the washer and remove any antifreeze used.
