Before installing MOHAWAK Waterproof Laminate Wood Flooring, it is important to properly prepare the site. Here are the steps you should follow:
1. Remove any existing carpet and padding, as well as any wood flooring installed on concrete. However, do not remove products that contain asbestos.
2. Undercut door frames and wall base to allow the flooring to slide at least 1/4" underneath. Leave a concealed 3/8" minimum expansion space under each.
3. Remove any bumps or peaks in the subfloor and fill depressions with floor leveling compound to ensure no more than 3/16" unevenness per 10-foot span.
4. Acclimate the unopened product before installation. If there is no time for acclimation, ensure that there is no more than a difference of 25°F and 20% relative humidity between the stocking/transportation environment of the flooring and the final installation environment.
5. Clean debris from the subfloor before installation.
6. For concrete subfloors, install a vapor barrier with overlapped seams of 8" or more.
7. For planks without attached underlayment, install over a single layer of underlayment appropriate for laminate wood floors. For planks with attached underlayment, it is acceptable to install Mohawk Premium underlayment prior to flooring installation if desired. Follow the Mohawk Premium underlayment installation instructions, ensuring all foam edges are sealed with sealing tape and any rips or perforations in the underlayment vapor barrier are repaired before flooring installation. A separate vapor barrier should not be used with Mohawk Premium underlayment.
By following these site preparation steps, you will ensure a proper foundation for the installation of MOHAWAK Waterproof Laminate Wood Flooring.
