To properly install the KICHLER 49984DBK Springfield Outdoor Wall Light, please follow these steps:
1. Disconnect power: Before starting the installation, make sure to disconnect power at the main circuit breaker panel or main fuse box.
2. Attach the mounting strap: Use the provided mounting strap and screws to attach it securely to the outlet box.
3. Grounding instructions: There are two options for grounding, depending on the type of mounting strap provided with your fixture.
a. For mounting straps with a hole and two raised dimples: Wrap the ground wire from the outlet box around the green ground xxxx and thread it into the hole.
b. For mounting straps with a cupped washer: Attach the ground wire from the outlet box under the cupped washer and green ground xxxx , then thread it into the mounting strap. If the fixture is provided with a ground wire, connect it to the outlet box ground wire using a wire connector (not provided).
Note: Never connect the ground wire to the black or white power supply wires.
4. Make wire connections: Refer to the provided chart for correct wire connections. Connect the black or red supply wire to the black wire of the fixture and the white supply wire to the white wire of the fixture. If using parallel cord wires, the neutral wire will be square-shaped or ridged, while the other wire will be round or smooth.
5. Push fixture to the wall: Carefully push the fixture against the wall, ensuring that the wires are not pinched between the wall and the canopy of the fixture. Thread the mounting screws into the threaded holes on the long sides of the canopy to secure it in place.
6. Insert recommended bulb(s): Insert the recommended bulb(s) into the fixture. Please note that bulbs are not supplied with the product.
For mounting the fixture outdoors and/or in wet locations, follow these additional instructions:
- Ensure that the mounting surface is clean, dry, flat, and at least 1/4" larger than the canopy on all sides.
- Correct any gaps between the mounting surface and canopy exceeding 3/16" as required.
- Apply silicone caulking compound completely around the back of the canopy where it meets the wall surface to prevent water from seeping into the outlet box.
