To properly install the KICHLER 49865WZC Andover Outdoor Wall Light, follow these steps:
1. Safety Precautions: Before starting the installation, ensure that the power is disconnected at the main circuit breaker panel or main fuse box.
2. Mounting Strap: Find the appropriate threaded holes on the mounting strap that align with the hole distance in the canopy. Thread the mounting screws into the threaded holes, starting from the outlet box side.
3. Attach Mounting Strap: Attach the mounting strap to the outlet box using the strap mounting screws. The mounting strap can be adjusted to suit the position of the fixture.
4. Grounding Instructions: There are two grounding methods depending on the design of the mounting strap provided with the fixture.
a. For mounting straps with a hole and two raised dimples: Wrap the ground wire from the outlet box around the green ground xxxx and thread it into the hole.
b. For mounting straps with a cupped washer: Put the ground wire from the outlet box under the cupped washer and the green ground xxxx . Thread the xxxx into the hole in the mounting strap. If the fixture is provided with a ground wire, connect the fixture ground wire to the outlet box ground wire using a wire connector.
Note: Never connect the ground wire to the black or white power supply wires.
5. Wire Connections: Refer to the provided chart for the correct wire connections. Connect the black or red supply wire to the corresponding wire on the fixture (e.g., black to black). Connect the white supply wire to the corresponding wire on the fixture (e.g., white to white).
Note: When using parallel cords (round and smooth or square and ridged), the neutral wire will be square shaped or ridged, and the other wire will be round in shape or smooth.
6. Mounting the Fixture: Carefully push the fixture to the wall, passing the mounting screws through the holes in the canopy. Ensure that all wires are inside the canopy and do not get pinched between the wall and the fixture's canopy. Thread the lockup knobs onto the mounting screws and tighten them to secure the fixture to the wall.
7. Installing the Glass: Slide the glass up over the installed bulb until it is seated. While supporting the glass, insert the spacer into the glass and slide it over the socket. xxxx the socket ring into place over the socket up to the spacer, making sure not to over-tighten.
8. Inserting the Bulb: Insert the recommended bulb (not supplied) into the socket.
For outdoor installations or wet locations, ensure that the mounting surface is clean, dry, flat, and 1/4" larger than the canopy on all sides. Any gaps exceeding 3/16" between the mounting surface and canopy should be corrected as required. Use silicone caulking compound to caulk completely around the back of the canopy where it meets the wall surface to prevent water from seeping into the outlet box.
