To install the KICHLER 49776BK Northland 1-Light 16.75-Inch Black Outdoor Wall Light, follow these steps:
1. Before starting, make sure to disconnect power at the main circuit breaker panel or main fuse box.
2. Find the appropriate threaded holes on the mounting strap that align with the hole distance in the canopy. Thread the mounting screws into the threaded holes, starting from the outlet box side.
3. Attach the mounting strap to the outlet box using the strap mounting screws. The mounting strap can be adjusted to suit the position of the fixture.
4. Follow the grounding instructions provided in the manual:
- If the mounting strap is provided with a hole and two raised dimples, wrap the ground wire from the outlet box around the green ground xxxx and thread it into the hole.
- If a cupped washer is provided, put the ground wire from the outlet box under the cupped washer and green ground xxxx , and thread the xxxx into the hole in the mounting strap.
If the fixture is provided with a ground wire, connect it to the outlet box ground wire using a wire connector. Never connect the ground wire to the black or white power supply wires.
5. Make the wire connections according to the provided chart for correct connections. Connect the black or red supply wire to the corresponding wire, and connect the white supply wire to the other wire as indicated.
6. Carefully push the fixture to the wall, passing the mounting screws through the holes in the canopy. Ensure that all wires are inside the canopy and do not get pinched between the wall and the fixture's canopy.
7. Thread the lockup knobs onto the mounting screws and tighten them to secure the fixture to the wall.
8. Raise the shade up into the fixture and fit the top edge of the shade inside the fixture roof.
9. Raise the spacer to the fixture and slip it over the socket.
10. Thread the socket ring onto the socket and tighten it to secure the shade in place.
If you are mounting the fixture outdoors and/or in wet locations, follow these additional instructions:
- The mounting surface should be clean, dry, flat, and 1/4" larger than the canopy on all sides.
- Any gaps between the mounting surface and the canopy exceeding 3/16" should be corrected as required.
- Use silicone caulking compound to caulk completely around where the back of the canopy meets the wall surface to prevent water from seeping into the outlet box.
