To install the KICHLER 49149AZ Zolder 1-Light 17-Inch Architectural Bronze Outdoor Wall Light, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the power: Before starting any work, make sure to turn off the electricity. Go to the main fuse or circuit breaker box in your home and switch off the power to the fixture or room you are working on.
2. Attach the mounting strap: Find the appropriate threaded holes on the mounting strap and assemble the mounting screws into them. Attach the mounting strap to the outlet box. Adjust the mounting strap to the desired position of the fixture. Note that screws for attaching the mounting strap are not provided.
3. Grounding instructions: Depending on the type of mounting strap provided with your fixture, follow the appropriate grounding instructions. If the mounting strap has a hole and two raised dimples, wrap the ground wire from the outlet box around the green ground xxxx and thread it into the hole. If a cupped washer is provided, attach the ground wire from the outlet box under the cupped washer and the green ground xxxx , and thread it into the mounting strap. If the fixture itself has a ground wire, connect it to the outlet box ground wire using a wire connector (not provided). Never connect the ground wire to black or white power supply wires.
4. Make wire connections: Use wire connectors (not provided) to make the appropriate wire connections. Refer to the reference chart provided in the manual for correct connections. Connect the black or red supply wire to the black wire on the fixture, and connect the white supply wire to the white wire on the fixture. If using parallel cords, the neutral wire will be square-shaped or ridged, and the other wire will be round-shaped or smooth.
5. Attach the fixture to the wall: Push the fixture against the wall, passing the mounting screws through the holes in the canopy. Thread the threaded balls onto the mounting screws and tighten them to secure the fixture to the wall.
6. Install the bulb: Insert the recommended bulb into the socket. Be cautious not to touch the bulb with bare hands. If you accidentally touch it, clean the bulb with denatured alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
7. Install the glass: Lower the glass down over the socket and fit the bottom edge of the glass into the cup on the fixture. Carefully turn the glass to secure it in place, but do not over-tighten.
If mounting the fixture outdoors or in wet locations, ensure that the mounting surface is clean, dry, flat, and 1/4" larger than the canopy on all sides. Any gaps exceeding 3/16" between the mounting surface and canopy should be corrected using silicone caulking compound to prevent water seepage into the outlet box.
