To clean and descale your Sunbeam KEM1100 1L Maestro Water Kettle, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the kettle from the power outlet before cleaning.
2. Do not immerse the kettle switch area, cord, or power base in water, or allow moisture to come into contact with these parts.
3. To descale the kettle, you can use Sunbeam Liquid Descaler, a non-toxic cleaner available from Sunbeam Appointed Service Agents. Follow the instructions provided with the descaler.
Alternatively, you can use white vinegar:
- Fill the kettle with 1 cup of white vinegar and the remainder with water.
- Allow the solution to stand overnight. Do not boil.
- Empty the solution from the kettle. Any stains remaining inside the spout can be removed by rubbing with a damp cloth.
- Fill the kettle with clean water, bring it to a boil, and then discard the water. Repeat this process to ensure all vinegar residue is removed.
4. To clean the stainless steel exterior, wipe it with a damp cloth and polish it with a soft dry cloth. Do not use chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners, as they may scratch the surface.
5. To clean the mesh filter, press the button on the handle to open the hinged lid. Grasp the top of the mesh filter and pull upwards to remove it. Wash the filter in warm soapy water and dry it thoroughly before replacing it in the kettle.
Regular descaling is important to maintain the kettle's performance and prolong its lifespan. Failure to descale the kettle regularly may result in reduced efficiency, overheating, or trigger the boil-dry cut-out mechanism.
