To set up and use the MADDOX MD61 Fuel Injection Pump Tester, follow these steps:
1. Before testing, ensure the area is well-ventilated and free of ignition sources and flammable materials. Have a dry chemical (class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
2. Turn off the ignition and inspect the engine, vacuum, fuel, and electrical systems for any additional problems or broken/worn components. Repair any issues before proceeding.
3. Make sure the fuel tank is full and the starting battery is charged.
4. If your vehicle has a fuel shutoff inertia switch, confirm that it has not been tripped.
5. Lay down shop rags to collect any spilled fuel. Note that a small amount of fuel may leak even during a correct connection. Have extra shop rags available.
6. Find the correct connection method for your vehicle by referring to the vehicle manufacturer's service manual and instructions.
7. Disable all fuel pumps and properly release pressure from the fuel lines according to the vehicle's service instructions.
8. Secure the end of the clear Pressure Relief Hose inside an appropriate fuel collection container in a safe place.
9. Connect the MADDOX MD61 Fuel Injection Pump Tester to the fuel system according to the manufacturer's specifications.
10. Turn the ignition to the "on" position and listen for the fuel pump to start briefly.
11. Check for any leaks. If a leak is found, turn off the ignition, clean up the fuel, and fix the leak before proceeding.
12. Turn off the ignition, then turn it back on to cycle the fuel pump again. Continue cycling the fuel pump until the pressure builds to the manufacturer's specification.
13. Check for leaks again. If a leak is found, turn off the ignition, clean up the fuel, and fix the leak before proceeding.
14. Perform any additional idle or other test measurements as directed in the vehicle's service instructions.
15. Turn off the ignition.
16. Press and hold the Pressure Relief Button on the MADDOX MD61 Fuel Injection Pump Tester until the Pressure Gauge reads 0. Allow any remaining fuel to drain out of the Relief Hose, then remove and seal the fuel collection container.
17. Use shop rags to catch any spilled fuel while disconnecting the Tester from the fuel system. Tighten all connections according to the manufacturer's specifications.
18. Dispose of any shop rags or materials containing fuel or fuel vapor properly.
19. Allow the Tester to dry completely in an area away from ignition sources and flammable materials before storing it.
Note: These instructions are intended as basic guidelines. Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer's service manual for correct test procedures.
