To install the STERLING 71341820-0 bathtub, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you have an adequately supported subfloor. If the subfloor is not level, you may need to install a 1" to 2" bed of mortar cement for leveling.
2. Construct a plumb stud pocket according to the roughing-in information provided on the back page of the instruction manual.
3. Install the rough plumbing for the bathtub.
4. Install the drain to the bath.
5. If provided, staple the felt pad to the subfloor so that it contacts all the support feet. If a pad is not provided, set the basin area in 1" to 2" of mortar cement.
6. Attach the apron brace, if provided, and lift and position the bath in the stud pocket.
7. Attach metal support clips to the flange at the locations shown in the roughing-in information. Level the unit and secure the metal support clips to the studs by bending the tabs over the flange.
8. Install plastic attachment clips at all remaining stud locations.
9. Shim under the support feet as needed to level the unit.
10. Connect the bath drain to the drain pipe and position a protective liner in the bath.
11. If you have custom walls, install furring strips, wallboard, and the finished wall as shown. If you have a STERLING Wall Set, install the back wall first by inserting the tabs into the slots. Then, measure, mark, and drill the faucet holes in the end wall and install the end walls by engaging the pins in the slots. Ensure that the front edges are flush with no more than a 1/32" gap.
12. Starting at the bottom, install screws through the dimples to secure the flanges to the studs. Secure the walls to the studs along the top using shims as needed.
13. Cover the framing with water-resistant wallboard and install the finished wall material.
14. Install the faucet trim and accessories, and seal where they contact the wall panels.
15. After painting, apply 100% silicone sealant where the unit contacts the finished wall.
