To remove and install the primary timing chain on a NISSAN VR30DDTT engine, follow these steps:
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the charge air cooler, intake manifold collector, intake manifold, rocker cover, turbocharger (bank 2), heater pipe, water pump, drive belt auto tensioner, idler pulley, and multi-way control valve.
3. Disconnect the electric intake valve timing control actuator harness connector.
4. Loosen the mounting bolts of the valve timing control covers (bank 1 and bank 2) and remove them.
5. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise to align the timing mark (grooved line without color) with the timing indicator 1. Check that the intake and exhaust cam noses on No. 1 cylinder (engine front side of bank 1) are located correctly. If not, rotate the crankshaft one revolution (360 degrees) to align them.
6. Remove the crankshaft pulley by loosening the bolt and using a suitable puller.
7. Remove the eye bolt of the oil feed pipe and the mounting bolt from the front cover, and move it aside.
8. Remove the oil pan (lower) and loosen the mounting bolts in front of the oil pan (upper).
9. Remove the front timing chain case by loosening the mounting bolts and prying it off.
10. Use a seal cutter to remove the old liquid gasket from the front and rear timing chain cases and oil pan (upper), as well as the bolt holes and threads.
11. To install the primary timing chain, follow these steps:
a. Install the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump drive related parts.
b. Install the timing chain, internal chain guide, slack guide, and timing chain tensioner.
c. Check that the matching marks on the sprockets and timing chain are aligned correctly.
d. Install new O-rings on the cylinder head and the front oil seal on the front timing chain case.
e. Apply liquid gasket to the front timing chain case and the top surface of the oil pan (upper).
f. Assemble and install the front timing chain case, tightening the mounting bolts in the specified order.
g. Install the valve timing control covers (bank 1 and bank 2) with new gaskets.
h. Install the oil pan (lower) and rocker covers (bank 1 and bank 2).
i. Install the crankshaft pulley, tightening the bolt and aligning the matching marks.
j. Rotate the crankshaft pulley to ensure smooth rotation.
Please note that this is a general overview of the removal and installation process. For detailed instructions and torque specifications, it is recommended to refer to the specific OEM service manual or consult a qualified mechanic.
