To connect the TOSHIBA CANVIO Basics 1TB Portable External Hard Drive to your computer, please follow these steps:
1. Make sure your computer meets the system requirements mentioned in the user manual. The drive is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1, macOS v10.15, macOS v10.14, and macOS v10.13.
2. Check the components included in the package. You should have the Canvio Gaming drive, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Cable (Type-A to Micro-B), and a support document.
3. Connect the USB 3.2 Gen 1 micro-B connector to the corresponding port on the drive itself.
4. Ensure that your computer is powered on and fully booted up.
5. Plug the USB Type-A connector into a USB Type-A port on your computer.
6. Use the supplied USB Type-A cable to connect the portable drive directly to the USB port on your computer.
7. Once connected, your computer should recognize the drive and it will appear as a new storage device.
Note: If you need to reformat the portable drive, please be aware that it will remove all previously stored user content.
To safely disconnect the portable drive from your computer, follow these steps:
1. For PlayStation/Xbox, follow the on-screen instructions on your device to complete the dismount process.
2. For Windows PC, click the "Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray. A pop-up message box will appear listing the external devices connected to your computer. Select the TOSHIBA drive to eject. After a few seconds, you will receive a notification that it is safe to remove the device. Click "OK" and you can unplug the drive.
3. For Mac, you can either Ctrl-click on the hard disk icon and choose "Eject," or you can drag the hard disk icon to the trashcan. Once ejected, you can safely unplug the drive.
Please note that it is strongly recommended not to unplug the drive by just unplugging the cable connection, as data may be written to the drive at that time, resulting in data loss or drive damage. Always follow the proper procedure to safely disconnect the drive.
