To convert your from double-sided to single-sided using the conversion kit, please follow the instructions provided in the manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Start by removing the glass retaining bracket on both sides of the fire by unscrewing the 1/4 turn fasteners located at the top of the glass. Remove the glass from both sides.
2. Remove the bottom trim from both sides by inserting a large slotted screwdriver into the lance forms and twisting.
3. Remove the infill screws and slide out the outer burners followed by the center burner.
4. Determine which side of the fire will be converted to single-sided and remove the side gib trims by removing the two screws from each and sliding them out. All the following steps will be performed on this side of the fire.
5. Unscrew the four (five in the DS1900) black machine screws to remove the top trim from the inside of the fire.
6. Place the bottom edge of the back panel into the fire, with the 1/4 turn fasteners towards the top. Lean the back panel up and turn the 1/4 turn fasteners to hold it in place.
7. Place the bottom air deflector against the back panel and slide it down, ensuring the lance forms insert into the slots securely.
8. Attach the side brackets by placing the oval slots against the back panel with the holes against the fire chassis. Fix them to the chassis with the provided black pozi screws.
9. On the back of the appliance (non-glass side), remove one xxxx from each of the four tabs at the bottom of the chassis and set each pair of tabs from 'close position' to 'open position'. Pull the tabs together in pairs to move the position of the air vents inside the fire.
10. For a DS1150, DS1400, or DS1650, remove the gib board fixing bracket by removing the screws along the top, bending the bracket towards you, and removing the remaining screws. For a DS1900, check if there are access holes on the gib board fixing bracket that allow access to the back panel screws. If not, drill out the rivets.
11. Place the back panel onto the appliance and attach it using the black pozi screws. For a DS1900, slide the back panel under the gib bracket and attach it using the black pozi screws.
12. Reinstall the gib board fixing bracket if necessary.
13. Place the firebox liners starting from the left side, carefully leaning them against the back of the fire and ensuring they sit against each other.
14. Attach the firebox liner bracket from the inside of the fire using the provided philips screws.
15. Reinstall the burners and infill by reversing the instructions from step 3.
16. Install the fuel bed media as per the installation/user guide.
17. Finish the conversion by re-installing the front piece of glass and the bottom trim.
Optional: If needed, you can relocate the diagnostic bracket to the opposite side of the appliance by removing the middle xxxx and feeding it through to the opposite side before placing the back panels.
