To use the Oatey 50683 Safe-Flo Silver Lead Free Solder for plumbing applications, follow these steps:
1. Cut the pipe to the desired length using a tube cutter, ensuring that the cut is square.
2. Use a reamer tool to remove any burrs on the inside and outside of the pipe surface.
3. Clean the surface of the piping to be joined by removing any oil, grease, and oxide corrosion. You can use abrasive sandcloth or a steel wire brush for cleaning.
4. Apply a small amount of approved flux to both the pipe and fitting surface. The flux helps promote the flow of the solder.
5. Insert the pipe end into the fitting.
6. Heat the joint area using caution not to overheat the joint. You can use a soldering torch or soldering iron for this step.
7. Feed the solder wire into the joint. As the solder wire melts, it should flow around the entire joint.
8. Once the solder has drawn around the joint, remove the heat source.
9. Allow the joint to cool undisturbed.
10. Once the joint is cool, remove any residual flux with a damp cloth.
It is important to note that this solder is specifically recommended for use on potable water systems for sweating joints in a copper water distribution system. It is not recommended for use on aluminum. For any applications not specifically referenced in the manual, it is advised to consult the Oatey Technical Department for guidance.
