To replace the stock footstud from your fork with the Vorsprung Secus Fork Air Spring Upgrade Kit, follow these steps:
1. Refer to the manufacturer's service instructions for your fork to disassemble the stock air spring and remove it completely from your fork. You can find the service instructions for RockShox forks at the following link: [link provided in the manual].
2. Secure the shaft firmly using 10mm Shaft Clamps. Make sure you are not clamping too close to the footstud and potentially onto the threads internally. Allow approximately 1 inch/25mm of space.
3. For non-Buttercup air shafts:
a. Heat the area with a heat gun.
b. Remove the footstud from the shaft using a 14mm wrench or Knipex. Do not use multigraphs.
c. Clean any Loctite residue off the air shaft carefully.
d. Place a drop of Red Loctite onto the airshaft thread. Thread the Footstud down onto the shaft by hand.
4. For Buttercup air shafts:
a. Loosen and separate the Buttercup housing to reveal the stainless foot plate.
b. Unthread and remove the stainless foot plate from the end of the air shaft. Remove the other half of the Buttercup housing and o-ring.
c. Apply one drop of Red Loctite 262 to the smaller thread of the Secus A3 Adaptor stud. Thread it into the bottom of the air shaft.
d. Apply one drop of Red Loctite 262 to the exposed thread of the Secus A3 Adaptor stud. Thread the footstud onto the adaptor.
e. Torque the footstud and adaptor against the air shaft to 30in.lbs (3.3Nm). Be cautious of the low torque and brace the top of the torque wrench to avoid putting a bending load on the air shaft.
5. Follow the manufacturer's service instructions to reassemble the air spring and your lowers. Refer to the service instructions for torque specifications, lubrication specifications, and general disassembly/reassembly.
6. When the spring side is filled with oil and ready to torque, note the protrusion of the foot stud. The third o-ring should be barely sticking out from the lowers. Use the installation tool (plastic cylindrical spacer) to pull the shaft through into the lowers and engage the press-fit.
7. Place the installation tool over the footstud and wind down the nut. Use an 11mm socket to pull the shaft through until you feel minor resistance. Do not tighten it up tight. Remove the installation tool.
By following these steps, you will be able to replace the stock footstud from your fork with the Vorsprung Secus Fork Air Spring Upgrade Kit.
