Here are the steps to set up the SME SYNERGY Precision Turntable:
1. Levelling: Ensure that the main chassis (lower chassis) is level in the lateral and longitudinal planes using a spirit/bubble level. Adjust the height of the 3 feet to achieve a level chassis.
2. Transit Locks: Remove the transit screws that secure the suspension during transit. These screws are accessible through holes in the driven pulley.
3. Drive Belt: Place the drive belt over the large driven pulley down as far as the pulley flange, ensuring it is free from twists and stretches over the motor pulley.
4. Platter: Unpack the platter and place it carefully and squarely over the turntable spindle, ensuring both mating surfaces are clean. Rotate the platter slowly by hand to position the belt on the pulleys.
5. Suspension: Adjust the sub-chassis suspension system by inserting a 3mm hex wrench into the center hole of each upper gallery cover and rotating clockwise to raise the sub-chassis. The correct suspension height is achieved when a 3.5mm clearance (gap) is achieved between the sub-chassis and column base.
6. Power Unit & Speed Control Unit: Connect the power unit to the speed control unit and turntable using the provided connection cables. Connect the AC mains power cable to the power unit AC input.
7. Phono Stage Power Unit: Connect the Nagra power unit low voltage output cable into the turntable chassis connector at the rear of the turntable.
8. Tonearm Set Up: The SME tonearm is factory-fitted. Refer to the tonearm instruction manual for the set-up procedure.
9. Cartridge: The tonearm and cartridge are factory-installed and set up. If the cartridge needs to be replaced, refer to the tonearm manual for guidance.
10. Power Cable Connections: Ensure that the mains power is off when connecting and disconnecting cables A and B.
Once the turntable is set up, you can follow the operation instructions provided in the manual to play a record and use the tonearm. The manual also includes maintenance instructions and precautions for transit.
