According to the owner's manual, the air filters in your Carrier 50VL Comfort 13.4 SEER2 Air Conditioner System should be checked every 3 or 4 weeks and replaced or cleaned whenever they become dirty. Dirty filters can put excessive stress on the blower motor and may cause it to overheat and shut down. It is important to have air filters in place before operating the unit. The location of the air filters can vary depending on the installation. They may be located in return air filter grilles mounted on the wall or ceiling of the conditioned space, or in an accessory filter rack installed inside the unit itself. When replacing filters, always use the same size and type of filter that was originally supplied by the installer.
