To ensure safety and efficiency, regular cleaning and maintenance of the stove are essential. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Empty the ash bucket after every use.
2. When the stove is cold, clean out any build-up of ash or unburnt fuel from the grate, around the ash bucket, and in any nooks or crannies of the stove.
3. Clean the stove throat plate monthly or as needed. To remove the throat plate, ensure the stove is cool, open the stove door, slide the throat plate forwards slightly until it is clear of the rear fiberboard, tilt downwards and backward slightly to clear the top retaining bracket, and finally rotate downwards and remove from the door of the stove. Clean off any fly ash or debris and replace in reverse order.
4. The flue, flue pipe, and chimney will require regular sweeping to minimize the build-up of soot and tar. This should be done annually as a minimum. If suitable access doors have not been installed in the flue way, access to the flue can be achieved by removing the throat plate in the stove itself.
5. If the stove door glass is stained, use a ceramic glass cleaner to remove the marks when the stove is completely cool.
6. Note that the internal boards of the stove may craze with normal use. Cracks will not affect the stove's performance as long as the boards remain in position. If pieces break from the boards, replace them as necessary.
7. It is recommended to have the stove serviced by a qualified (HETAS) registered engineer regularly.
