To properly install the Hellwig Rear Stabilizer Bar, follow these steps:
1. Before starting the installation, ensure that the parking brake is set and the wheels are chocked for safety.
2. If your vehicle already has a factory-installed rear anti-sway bar, remove it along with all the factory-supplied hardware.
3. Mount the square-shaped U-bolts around the frame and bolt the clevis brackets to the U-bolts using the supplied 1/2" washers and nuts.
4. Insert hourglass bushings into the loops of the end links and lubricate them with the supplied lubricant for easier installation. Install sleeves into the hourglass bushings.
5. Assemble the end links together with the 9/16" jam nut on the threaded portion of the end link. Leave them loose for adjustment later.
6. Loosely attach the end links to the clevis brackets using the 7/16" x 2-3/4" long bolt and lock nut. Leave them loose for adjustment later.
7. Install the round U-bolts over the axle, ensuring they are positioned under any brake lines, wires, or hoses to avoid pinching or crushing when tightened.
8. Lubricate and install the d-bushings on the sway bar. Install U-plates over the d-bushings.
9. Attach the sway bar to the lower bushings on the end links using 7/16" x 2-3/4" bolts, washers, and locknuts. Leave them loose for adjustment later.
10. Rotate the sway bar into position and attach it to the axle by placing the legs of the U-bolts through the holes in the saddle brackets and U-plates. Fasten with 1/2" washers and double nut. Leave them loose for adjustment later.
11. Ensure that all vehicle components have proper clearance and that no wires or hoses will be crushed or pinched when tightened.
12. Torque the U-bolts to 50-60 ft-lb and the end link fasteners to 35-40 ft-lb.
13. Bounce the vehicle and check for clearance on all undercarriage components such as exhaust, wires, shocks, brake, and fuel lines. Test drive the vehicle and recheck for clearance and installation alignment.
14. The sway bar arms have three mounting holes. The outer hole is the nominal position, but for firmer settings, you can use the inner holes. It is recommended to start with the outer mounting hole and adjust as needed based on your driving style.
15. After one week of driving, recheck the installation and continue to regularly inspect the hardware, brackets, and bushings for tightness and security.
