To set up the INTELLINET 561204 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Switch, follow these steps:
1. Power: Connect the included power adapter to the receptacle on the back of the switch and plug it into a power outlet. Confirm that the Power LED lights up, indicating that the switch is powered on.
2. VLAN Mode: The switch features port isolation, also known as "Private VLAN." In this mode, all ports are isolated from each other and only have access to the uplink port. By default, the switch operates in Normal mode where all ports can communicate with each other. If you want to enable VLAN mode, refer to the manual for instructions on configuring VLAN1 or VLAN2.
3. Ports: All ports on the switch support Auto-MDI/MDI-X functionality, allowing you to use straight or crossover UTP/STP cables to connect the RJ45 ports to devices such as PCs, routers, hubs, and other switches. It is recommended to use Cat5/5e/6 UTP/STP cables for optimal performance. If a status LED doesn't indicate a link, check the corresponding device for proper setup and operation.
4. LEDs: The LED indicators on the switch help monitor and troubleshoot connections. The Power LED should be on when the switch is powered on. The PoE LED indicates whether a port is linked to a PSE/PoE device or not. The Link/Act LED shows the status of valid port connections and data transmission. 5. Placement: Before using the switch, ensure that it is placed on a level surface capable of supporting its weight. Leave a minimum of 25 mm (approx. 1 inch) clearance on the top and sides for proper ventilation. Keep the switch away from electric-noise sources like radios, transmitters, and broadband amplifiers. Additionally, avoid placing the switch in areas with excessive moisture.
