To measure the silica content in boiler feed water using the Impex Produkter Visocolor Powder Pillows Silica LR reagent set, follow these steps:
1. Rinse a test tube several times with the sample water. The pH value of the sample must be between pH 3 and 13.
2. Optional: Prepare a blank by filling another test tube with 5 mL of the sample water. Clean the test tube and place it in the photometer as a blank value. Adjust the photometer to zero.
3. Fill another test tube with 5 mL of the sample water.
4. Add 5 drops of the molybdate reagent to the test tube.
5. Close the test tube and shake it well.
6. Wait for 2 minutes.
7. Add the content of 1 Powder Pillow "citric acid reagent" to the test tube.
8. Close the test tube and shake it well.
9. Wait for 1 minute.
10. Add the content of 1 Powder Pillow "ascorbic acid reagent" to the test tube.
11. Close the test tube and shake it well.
12. Clean the test tube.
13. Wait for a 3-minute reaction time.
14. Measure the absorbance of the solution using a suitable photometer according to the manual provided by MACHEREY-NAGEL.
Please note that it is important to work quickly during the measurement process to prevent silica from being released from the glass of the test tube. Additionally, ensure that any distilled water used for dilution is silica-free. After use, thoroughly rinse out the test tubes and seal them. This method can also be used for the analysis of sea water.
