Cleaning and storing your RV dumping tools is an important part of RV maintenance to ensure a non-contaminated and odor-free RV. Here are the steps to clean and store your RV dumping tools:
1. Dumping Accessories Cleaning:
- Dump the black tank first, then rinse/flush the black tank, and finally dump the gray tank.
- Rinse the sewer hose with fresh water while still hooked up to the cleanout.
- After rinsing the hose, disconnect it from the cleanout.
- Fill the hose with water and disinfectant and let it sit overnight.
- Some RVers recommend disinfecting the hose by filling it with bleach water, shaking it to reach all accordion grooves, and letting it sit overnight. Dump and rinse the next morning.
- Optional: Spray an antibacterial cleaner on the ends of the discharge hose before storing.
Note: Be cautious about using bleach water on accessories with rubber seals or metallic parts, as it may cause damage or rust.
2. Cleaning Accessories with Grime or Solids:
- If your accessories have grime or solids stuck on them, soak them in a bucket of water and a couple of ounces of Unique RV Digest-It to break them up.
- Afterward, you can soak them in bleach or antibacterial soap to kill any unseen bacteria.
3. Storing RV Dumping Tools:
- Store your dumping tools in a location as removed as possible from the living space.
- Consider the following storage options:
- Built-in RV storage compartment
- DIY compartment door storage for the sewer hose
- Storage bin
- RV bumper
- DIY or aftermarket sewer hose storage
- Sewer hose storage bag
- Sewer hose end caps
