To install the VORSPRUNG LK-34-EVOL Luftkappe Air Piston Upgrade, you will need the following tools and supplies: a torque wrench, a roll pin tool, a 10mm bullet tool, 10mm shaft clamps, a 12mm wrench, a 12mm crows foot adapter or universal adapter, a 10mm socket, a 15mm socket, a 32mm socket, a ratchet, a bench vise, a 2mm Hex Wrench, a propane torch or heat gun, a shock pump, Slick Honey grease, 20wt WPL ShockBoost oil or Fox 20wt Gold oil, blue Loctite, red Loctite, isopropyl alcohol, and clean, lint-free shop towels.
Here are the steps to install the Luftkappe:
1. Refer to the manufacturer's service instructions to disassemble the stock air spring and remove it completely from your fork. You can find the instructions on the Fox website.
2. Press out the roll pin from the old piston using the roll pin tool.
3. Remove the old piston, but leave the topout bumper and silver spacer in place.
4. Clean the shaft with isopropyl alcohol.
5. Slide the Luftkappe stud onto the shaft, lining up the lower hole in the stud with the hole near the end of the air shaft.
6. Compress the new roll pin to get it started in the hole, then press it all the way in using a vise.
7. Slide the plastic Luftkappe piston onto the stud, lining up the slots in the piston with the roll pin.
8. Lubricate the o-ring on the piston and inside of the Luftkappe dome where it will contact the o-ring.
9. Apply blue Loctite to the thread on the piston stud.
10. Thread the dome onto the piston by hand and torque it to 50in.lbs (5.5Nm). Use a bench vise to hold the foot stud flats while torquing the dome, but be careful not to bend or slip the shaft.
Once the installation is complete, you can follow the remaining steps in the Fox air spring service guide to finish servicing your fork.
Please note that it is important to follow the torque specifications, lubrication specifications, and general disassembly/reassembly instructions provided by the manufacturer.
